Pile of crisp crackers flecked with dried herbs

Tailgate Ranch Oyster Crackers

The product page lists buttermilk, garlic, onion, and dried sweet red pepper and calls it "a fine, even dust with no heat," so it clings to oiled crackers and works for kids and grown-ups alike. The product page notes it contains milk (buttermilk), so keep that in mind for guests with allergies.

Ingredients and steps

Makes: about 10 cups

From the product page: "Shake it on: popcorn, chips and fries while they're hot, chicken before it goes in the oven, vegetables before they roast, salads as a finishing dust."

Ingredients

  • 2 bags (9 oz each) oyster crackers
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil, or melted butter
  • Frisco Roasted Garlic Ranch Seasoning: use the amount on the label
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill (optional)

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 250F.
  2. Whisk the oil, Roasted Garlic Ranch, and dill in a very large bowl.
  3. Add the crackers and fold gently until every cracker is coated.
  4. Spread them on two sheet pans and bake 15-20 minutes, stirring every 5-7 minutes, until the oil soaks in and they look dry.
  5. Give them one more light dusting while they're warm, then let them cool completely on the pans.
  6. Store in an airtight container up to a week. Scoop them into cups for the tailgate or float a few on a bowl of chili.

Pair it with

Montana Ranch Seasoning. For a second, smokier batch, this ranch lists smoked paprika, dill weed, and tarragon, and its product page suggests it on "popcorn or chips."
