Glazed chicken drumsticks cooking on a black grill grate

Sticky Honey Garlic Grilled Drumsticks

The product page lists light brown sugar, granulated garlic, paprika, black pepper, thyme, and hickory smoke powder, so it gives chicken skin good color, a garlic punch, and a little smoke. The ingredient list doesn't include honey, so the real honey in the glaze brings it in, and the product page itself suggests using the blend in a glaze.

Ingredients and steps

Serves: 4-6

From the product page: "Apply generously and let it sit 30 minutes before cooking so the flavors meld." and "Or stir it into a glaze for a sticky-sweet finish."

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lb chicken drumsticks (10-12 pieces)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Frisco Honey Garlic BBQ: use the amount on the label
  • For the glaze: 1/3 cup honey, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon cider vinegar, and Honey Garlic BBQ stirred in to taste

Steps

  1. Pat the drumsticks dry and toss them with the oil.
  2. Coat them generously with Honey Garlic BBQ, as the product page directs, and let them sit 30 minutes. Keep them in the refrigerator if they'll sit any longer than that.
  3. Set up the grill for two zones (coals or burners on one side only) and bring the indirect side to 350-375F.
  4. Cook the drumsticks on the indirect side, lid closed, 35-45 minutes, turning every 10-15 minutes.
  5. While they cook, warm the honey, butter, and vinegar in a small pan until the butter melts. Stir in Honey Garlic BBQ a little at a time until it tastes right to you.
  6. When the thickest drumstick reads 165F (dark meat is more tender at 175-185F), brush on the glaze. Move the legs over direct heat for 1-2 minutes per side, just until the glaze bubbles and sets. Watch them closely, because honey and brown sugar burn fast.
  7. Rest 5 minutes, then serve with any extra glaze on the side. Don't reuse glaze that touched the brush after it was on raw chicken.

Pair it with

Grill Master bundle. This boxed set holds Prime Rib & Roast, Rib Rub, Sizzlin' Sweet Heat, and KC Style BBQ, per its product page, so the rest of the weekend's grilling is covered.
